Canopy House
With a series of staggering awning elements generously extended from the edges of all three levels of the house, Canopy House seamlessly integrates with its unique cultural and contextual dimensions in Namakabroud, Iran.
The extended canopies shelter the house envelope and its immediate external spaces from the elements. They also augment local temperature differences between the building fabric and its surrounding atmosphere, thereby increasing air circulation around the building envelope. Utilising this potential, a series of linear awning windows under each level’s soffit are designed to passively induce natural ventilation across the internal spaces. This mechanism is intended for use even when the house is vacant, to prevent the accumulation of excessive heat or humidity inside the building.
The carefully dark green crafted slab edges are designed to accommodate for juliet balconies, providing support to the balustrades, and defining the rhythm of the facade and form.
